Confidentiality: how I protect what you tell me
In short: What you tell me stays confidential. Not out of politeness, but because my professional rules require it.
Practical information.
Many founders tell me things nobody else knows. Not the board, not the co-founder, sometimes not even their partner. That only works if you can be sure it stays confidential. Here is how that works with me.
I’m bound by professional secrecy
I’m a psychologist registered in Spain (Colegio Oficial de la Psicología de Las Palmas, reg. no. P-03277). The professional rules for psychologists bind me to secrecy.
That means: what I learn about you in my work, I may not pass on. This applies to performance work too, not only to therapy. If I broke it, my professional body could sanction me. So it isn’t a promise, it’s a duty.
We also put it in writing
Before the first session you receive a consent form. It sets out what stays confidential and where the legal limits are. You can read it calmly before you sign.
What stays confidential
- That you work with me. I don’t name clients. I treat invoices as confidential too.
- Everything about your company: numbers, funding, customers, staff, plans.
- Everything about the people around you: co-founders, investors, team, family.
- Everything about you: your doubts, your patterns, the things you’re not proud of.
If your company pays for the sessions, it only sees the invoice. Nothing else.
Where the limits are
There are a few exceptions. They apply to every psychologist in Spain:
- A serious risk to someone’s life. If you or someone else is in serious danger, I have to act.
- A legal duty to report. For example, if I learn about violence against children.
- A court order. Then I pass on only what the court requires.
This is very rare. These exceptions usually have nothing to do with your business.
Your notes
I take notes so I know what we’re working on. They are kept in my business Google Workspace account, protected with two-factor sign-in. Only I have access, and I don’t pass them on to anyone.
If you’d like me to delete your notes when we stop working together, tell me. Everything else about your data is in the privacy notice.
Why this matters so much
As a founder you decide every day who learns what: the board, the team, investors. With me you don’t have to manage anything. Here you can say how things really are. That’s when the work becomes useful.
